Calendering
Calendering
Portfolio of Calendering Concepts for All Paper Grades
The calender is essential for final paper quality, smoothing and finishing the sheet under pressure and temperature. By passing through one or more calender roll nips, the paper surface is refined to meet specific production requirements.
We offer calendering solutions for every need: soft or hard nip, single or multiple nips, and calendering on one or both sides. Our concepts ensure the desired surface properties for all paper and board products.
TT Calender-H (Hard-Nip Calender)
TT Calender-H improves sheet smoothness and ensures precise caliper, making it ideal for downstream processes such as coating. It features two hard-surfaced rolls: a heated roll for uniform temperature and a deflection-compensating roll to provide controllable cross-direction line load.
Key features:
TT Calender-S (Soft-Nip Calender)
TT Calender-S provides higher smoothness compared to a hard-nip calender, influencing sheet characteristics such as density and printability. This calender consists of two rolls: a heated roll that provides a hot surface and a uniform temperature profile, and a mating deflection-compensation roll for controllable cross-direction (CD) line load. The latter features a soft cover comprised of fiber-reinforced epoxy resins.

EcoNip Roll
EcoNip corrects thickness variations occurring in the cross-machine direction. In calenders, EcoNip roll types provide uniform forces in the nip between rolls across the entire width of the paper web. An oil-filled pressure chamber within the roll enables deflection compensation for precise profiling of the paper web.
Nipco F Roll
Voith's Nipco F Roll is a calender's deflection-controlled roll. Its design allows for the most precise calendering process on the market. This equipment is primarily used for specialty paper and high-quality paper.
